GamCare has confirmed that during Safer Gambling Week 2020, which is scheduled for 19-25 November, it will give UK companies access to free online training and briefing sessions.
The charity is opening its online training modules to organisations who endorse the goal of ‘stimulating open conversations about safer gambling’ at Safer Gambling Week.
GamCare notes that in addressing gambling addiction and behaviours within workplace settings, it aims to break down social barriers.
“According to a Reed in Partnership report (2016), up to 10% of working adults have experience of problems gambling can cause in the workplace, including loss of concentration, low productivity and absence, criminal activity (including theft and fraud) and impacts on mental wellbeing” GamCare highlighted.
Of further concern, GamCare recognises that day-to-day conditions for workers have changed dramatically as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with workers possibly being furloughed or worried about financial problems, loneliness or boredom.
GamCare will open its online briefing sessions to all UK companies during Safer Gambling Week, helping workers understand how problem-gambling affects their teams.
Furthermore, GamCare will educate workers on how to spot addictive behaviours and how to initiate gambling addiction discussions, using resources to help facilitate gambling damage prevention.
